Default 2002 electronic hvac issues

Hi guys. I have a 2002 f150 with the electronic hvac controller. It is the version that is completely electric. It does not have the vacuum actuators inside of it. There are no vacuum hoses coming out of the back of it.

My issue is that it is stuck on the vents. The a/c works. It changes from hot to cold. But it will not switch to any other location. Won’t go to defrost, won’t go to the floor.

the previous owner told me he did something under the dash so it would blow through the vents since it wasn’t switching for him.

so, I know it’s already shaping up to be a mess, but where do you guys think I should start?

Thank you.

first would be test the actuators to see if they move, fords EATC control heads of that era were a notorious weak point

The EATC of that era still used vacuum motors to move the inlet and outlet doors. The "all electronic" systems didn't come about until the 2004 MY.

Sounds like the panel/floor mode door is stuck in the panel position.

thank you! What’s the best way for me to check if it is, indeed, a stuck door?

Just out of curiosity, how does it function then? I took it out today and there wasn’t any vacuum lines coming out of it.

Sounds like the PO disconnected the vacuum line connector and then secured the mode door manually in the panel position or he re-plumbed the vacuum lines to give the result he was looking for. Just speculating based on what you've described. You're going to have to stick your head under the dash and look in the area above the gas pedal. The vacuum motor of interest should have a yellow and a blue vacuum line going to it.

See this photo (lifted from an eBay auction by a recycler) to see where the vacuum lines are supposed to connect.
