If water is coming into the cab It was my experience it’s not the third brake light, it’s the rear window.

I also have water coming in through the brake light. I redid the window last summer. It being winter here, I took some packing tape and covered the gap between the cab and light for now - will take another approach in the spring.

Water will come in through both. The window is the primary culprit, but the brake light is a second path. In case of the window leaking, there are many threads here and a few good youtube videos on how to fix it.

Regarding the brake light, the seal can wear off from around the light enclosure, especially if a previous owner (ask me how i know) has taken it out several times because he mis-diagnosed where the leak was coming from (i.e. - it's usually the window). In my case, i did take the light out and run a bead of silicone to stop that leak. But obviously, you should check both that and the window.

Did I mention that it's the window that usually leaks first? :-)

I replaced my window seal, only to discover that it was actually my brake light that was leaking. If you slowly pour water on the top, you might be able to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from.

I used some 30 minute rain ready window sealant from home depot to seal all the gaps behind the brake light. I then used some vinyl (3M or Avery automotive wrap quality, which will last a few years) to go around the edges of the brake light itself, further sealing up any gaps but still being easy enough to remove for when I need to change the bulb.

Anyone have a part number for the rear window seal for a 1997 truck with a sliding rear window? I noticed my head liner is water stained.

It's not a part, per se. You buy a roll of Butyl Rope. 3M 08162 Window Weld is what I used. Being a 97, inspect the frame of the window CAREFULLY for cracks. Mine was cracked, and I sealed most of it with some Ultra Black. I missed a spot though, because I still get an ever-so-slight leak when there is a lot of rain. Overall, it is MUCH better though.

Roger that. I appreciate it. I wasn't sure if Ford had a model specific part for it or not.

Gonna bump this... Does anyone know if the window frame/surround is still available and have a part number for it. I can't seem to google the right words. Mine is in fact cracked in a few places.
