Are you sure they need replacement? They probably just need adjusting.

They're basically the same as regular drum brakes just a PITA because the hub is in the way. If the brake shoe material fell off the shoe when you took the rotor off I'd just let it ride. It's just a parking brake and the metal part of the shoe digs in just fine. Plus that's what your trans has Park for.. unless it's a manual you should probably replace them.

I was gonna do the same to my 03 rear wheel drive (discs). Guess I'm just anal about having stuff in the original condition. I was wondering if I had to remove any more than the wheel, caliper and rotor in order to do the job or if I had to remove the hub also.

Easy job,

Remove wheel, caliper, rotor...

This exposes everything you need...

If you don't know the workings of a drum brake setup be sure to snap a pic of the guts before dismantling it...

They sell a tool to stretch the springs to hook into position... Basically a hook, I'm sure you can find something around the garage...

WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!! springs can go rogue and take an eye out!

2001 F150 Super Crew E brake diagram

I'm trying to replace the parking brakes and need a diagram to reference. The e brakes were removed when I bought the truck and my manual does not give enough detail....Thanks
