ya, as for the cab coming in one piece, I can see that already. I absolutely love the pallet racking frames. I was thinking of building something outta 2x6's or something and support the carners so no twisting sorta thing but this is waaaaaay better.
I have the 2001 Service manuals on order as well as the electrical manual.
I was thinking of running a strap from the front of the rad support area to the main lifting straps to cut down on the angle of dangle . So the picture shows a great center of gravity, perfect. I am thinking of running the straps on the outside of the cab at the back with a brace between the straps at the roof to preven the straps from pushing on the rear doors. Still working out ideas an cenarios.
This will probably happen now in the spring cause the weather here can turn numbing cold very quick.

well it turned numbing cold Friday I am picking up my shelving tomorrow 2 - 12 foot uprights and 6 - 6" cross beams that are 12 feet long,... perfect. Thanks for the ideal idea!!!!!!! btw
I did a test mock-up with my arcitect's scale ruler and a 1/18 model. Cause the box is removed, the cab can be tilted back to clear the lower rad support over the top of the engine. I can also crank the torsion bars down if need be and even install some low profile tires for even more room but I think it won't be needed. I will have about 18" of clearance
I also marked my lifting points, the front strap will be isolated from the rear lifting straps to allow for front and back tilting as it is lifted. I will be taking pictures along the way and pictures of most things I unplug (helps with remembering later on).

I would be tempted to use a skid loader with a beam attached for doing lifts of trusses onto homes/sheds/garages, etc...
I would feel safer. Practice on the crappy cab first!

I dont think a skid laoder would pick it up that far out on a boom, unless its a really big skid loader! Like I said, I used a 2000 pound come along and it was maxing it out!

PM'd you back 4dtuff, thank you very much
Oh yes I will be "practicing" on the rollover cab first, put money on that.
I have a 2 ton come-along but even lifting the box was heavy cause of the leverage. I used tiedown straps rated for 2000lbs on each corner. WAY WAY easier. I am still working the details out on the lifting part.
OPTION 1) use 1 Chain fall, center hook up, have to protect the cab from endless chain and can't have tilting option so have to balance more. not using this idea
OPTION 2)use 2 chain falls, one for front, one for back, This will be most likely the option I am going,...I think
Option 3) use tie-down straps one on each corner. works very well, can crank to the top if need be. only problem is lowing have to be careful that the strap doesn't lower to far and come undone.
Thank you for suggesting the skid steer/zoom boom, I would have to rent one and that is usually by the day sorta thing. A person would feel rushed and that is when mistakes may happen. I could see this working if I owned a skid steer though, really.
I have my pallet racking now, see the snow, weather changes quickly hey? -10 celcius today
oh got a bonus too, see pictures
