Default Cold (- 23C) starting issues

Good morning guys....new user here...like the site! So I have a 2003 Supercrew 4.6l that's having issues starting the when cold weather arrived. Doesn't matter how cold it gets but if its plug in, it starts like a champ... BUT if its not and it's in the minus 22C range and colder no way will it start like it did. It will finally start if I try the starting process and go through it about 4 - 5 times it'll finally fire and start. It seems like it's not getting fuel! I've change my fuel filter and spark plugs but same result. Now if I think back.....way back....I had a t1989 Topaz... and it did the same think....it turned out I believe it needed injector(s). So I ask....could it be injector(s) that's causing this issue and if I used the block heater it starts?? I just cant see the co-relation!! Thanks guys

What oil do you run?

You might need to crank a second longer on a very cold day.

4-5 is excessive.

Default Cold (- 23C) starting issues

I'm running 20W50 synthetic....always have.

Having changed my staring techs or anything......I've tried starting it for about 8 seconds each time and like I said it finally fires on the 4th or 5th attempt. Its about this time I press down on the accelerator and it seems to have some life. If I use my remote start....well it just doesn't fire of start at all. My battery is fully charged as well...its 2 yrs old.

Start with using the recommended oil. 5w20 synthetic blend. I will not help you until you switch.

You've always used 20w50 means you've always been using the wrong oil. Unless you have more resources than FORD and have spent many dollars building and testing an engine, you're doing more harm than good.

What do you think of the injector idea?

This may sound harsh but a quart of you 20w50 and take a quart of 5w20 leave them both out in the cold temp you've been starting your truck in. Pour them both into cups and see what your truck is trying lubricate itself with when it's cold

Haha...I know....It was a typo. I follow what Ford recommends...and she only goes to a Ford Dealer when she needs something. I got 83000Kms on her....just broke in.
I've talk to the garage and they are not sure what's up. They recommended a new gas filter and new plugs to eliminate the obvious. But no change in starting. Here's the other thing.... If it's say minus 25C and warms up to 15C it will not start...same thing happens.

Try this next time it's cold and you have a feeling it won't start.

Turn the key to the run position (do not try to start), then cycle it off, back to run, off..etc. Do that a few times then attempt to start. This will "prime" the rails. See if it starts right up.

If you have a gauge and connect to the schrader valve on the fuel rail, it should hold around 35-40psi for 10 minutes after you do the key cycling before you start it.
