2001 f150 5.4 air filter?
I need to replace my air filter was thinking about replacing it with a k&n is there any advantage with a k&n in a stock system other than I can clean it instead of buying a new filter? Another question does anyone have any experience with cold air intake systems such as k&n, airaid, or any of the ones they sale on eBay . Is the cold air intake system/kit worth the extra money over just a k&n filter.

I have the K&N system on my truck, I felt a definite difference in pick up, and it makes a nice beefy sound. When it comes to brand its personal preference, I can tell you I stick with K&N because its good quality and has been around forever, you can buy the filter cleaning kit made for K&N at any auto parts store so thats a plus in my book! Its completely up to you but you cant go wrong with K&N!

And yes I take my filter off, clean it with a special cleaner spray it down with a water hose, let it dry and then re oil it, they make a kit for it with all the instructions 👍

I have a K&N full system, got lucky and found mine brand new on Craig's list. I think it's a good system and K&N now has a dry filter like the other companies. Most on here will tell you just to do the gotts mod, it's cheap and supposedly just as effective. I like my K&N and don't regret spending the money.

So you want a filter that has less filtering ability than a stock filter, can cause MAF issues if you oil it wrong and does nothing for power?
Save your money. Do the Gotts mod if you feel you have to do something.

Definitely DON'T go K&N. You already have a CAI. What you really want is a nano fiber DRY element. It's the same shape as the factory element, but the media is much better. It flows better, doesn't imbed or trap most of the dirt. Once you turn the engine off, the dirt falls off it.
Yea, don't go with that PITA K&N. If you want consistent performance for 100,000 miles plus get one of these, -
If you have a K&N system currently, -not all is lost. Just swap that oil breather filter for a better type ^^^. Good for 100,000 miles or 4 years. I've use one since 08...same one and it looks like new.
