2001 f 150 ball joint?

With the front wheels off the ground try to push-pull the tires top and bottom on either side of the truck.
I went to my suspension guy a couple times over the last year, I began to get a clunk and strange squeak when I went over speed bumps and when backing my truck into the driveway...
Turns out it was not my ball joints at all!
It was the lower control arm on the passenger side and Brace Yourselves...
The Idler Arm.
Holy Crow I was thrown for a loop I always assumed (from reading forums and YouTube) that weird stuff up front (I have 152K on my '02 F150) was the result of the Ball Joints that we can't Grease.
Together the Idler arm and the Tie rod end were allowing 1.25" of play (.75" and .50" respectively)
This truck is like brand new underneath and aside from the small rust hole I found on the drivers side dog leg this baby steers like it would in a new truck commercial.
Have a great day you guys and gals it's time to make the coffee in NJ

I have a year 2000 F-150 that friends can hear coming from a half mile
away because of all the squeaking going on in my suspension. It really
is embarrassing and I would pay to fix except that it has only ever been
driven on pavement and it only has 45K miles and I refuse to believe
any part of the suspension could be worn out.
( I would love to park beside new Ford Truck dealer and offer prospective
buyers free rides to see what crap they built ) Hopefully in later years
they changed the way they build em. Anyway, to the original poster,
I suppose you have to replace the Idler arm and the Tie rod ends.
Can that be done by yourself without expensive tools ? Without having
to disassemble the major big parts of the front suspension ?
What is the cost of the parts. Honestly, 1.25" play would make me think
the car would want to veer off the road !

yep pretty easy to do. If/when you replace use MOOG. lifetime warr and they are about the best aftermarket you can get.
I think most parts stores carry the moog. they run about $45 each. if you do not mind ordering online goto www.rockauto.com they run about $25 each plus shipping.

Would it be possible to get the exact part numbers you ordered from www.rockauto.com Did you also get the upper control arms from there as well? Need to do this and would like to do a one stop shop so I have all of the nessasary parts...
