Default 2001 F-150 Aftermarket Radio Installation

Hey everyone,

I just bought a 2001 F-150 and was wanting to put in an aftermarket radio. I was wondering if the conversion from the factory radio to an aftermarket is as easy as plugging in new plugs and then splicing some wires. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

youll need to get either a single din or double din bracket depending on which type of radio you're getting. If you like to solder you don't need any new plugs... If you don't you can buy adapter plugs that will plug into factory harness and directly into the new radio

Unless you have premium sound, all it takes is a $5 harness and $10 dash kit. There are several step by step instructions on the Internet.

If you haven't bought the radio and stuff yet, check out Crutchfield -- very helpful, knowledgeable, tech help for as long as you own the stuff. I've bought home and car stereo from them, always got the right help, and supplies that come with the radio. Pretty much just plug and install, but ask them. --- Crutchfield.com, or you can call them for help.

I actually just pulled the factory stereo out of my truck(should have done it before I ordered the stuff but didn't have time earlier), but the factory stereo has 2 plugs that go into it, will this wiring harness still work;

My aftermarket radio only used one of the plugs. The other one wasn't used. Just make sure to plug the antenna in and plug in the harness and tuck the unused plug away. But yes that should work. At least the reviews say it should.

Correct - the second plug is not used.

Alright, everything has came in so now it's time to do the install, but how do I install an American International dash kit? All of the other stereo installs that I have done never required a dash kit. Here is a link to the dash kit that I bought if that helps;

Thanks in advance
