Angry 2001 4.6 Keeps Killing

My 2001 F-150 XLT has the 4.6 v8 in it and has a rough idle. When I am stopped at red lights or stop signs, my rpm dip below 500 and then surge back up sometimes causing the truck to jump on me if I don't have the breaks applied enough. The truck killed on me while making a U-turn on Monday and then accelerating from a stop today. The truck starts right back up but keeps with the rough idle. I am at a loss of what is going on right now. Any ideas?

I have a K&N intake set up on it and I am due for a new filter, could my truck just not be getting enough air?//

The CEL isn't on and I am praying its not my transmission haha.

Your air filter would have to be really bad for it to stall your rig. Have you cleaned it at all or ever? K&N air filters are reusable, and can be cleaned with soapy water. Just make sure it's nice and dry before reapplying.

Sometimes your computer can throw a code with only flashing the CEL briefly making it hard to notice it was ever on. (They don't all stay on) Once your computer acknowledges something is wrong in a lot of cases it can go into a sort of override mode. Otherwise known as "Limp mode". It will override and or compensate what ever is malfunctioning to make the truck run long enough to make it to a shop. If I were you I would go to Auto-Zone or a like establishment and pull your codes CEL or not. It's free and totally worth it.

Good luck man!

I have had similar issues with my '97 4.6. Did you ever find out what was causing this? I've tried cleaning the IAC valve but that didn't help.

Clean the iac passage in the intake.. That or your IAC is on its way out... Also could be a TPS problem..
