2001 F150 Cranks, but Wont Start
I have a similar problem. Drove my truck to the park and ride but on my way back would not start. It would crank but does not start. When key is turned to ON, all gauges peg to maximum for a few seconds and then drop off. Tried starting after an hour, started sputtering and died. Second try, started right up. Left it sitting for 20mins and tried starting again, starter turned but did not engage. After a few hours later, started it again and it started! Cant imagine whats going on. Could it be the battery? Please help. Losing sleep over this.

Pegged gauges = low battery voltage
Ford is so stupid in this regard.
The pegged gauges mean the battery voltage is too low for the ECU to start the engine. BUT, the starter will turn over.
Go figure, it's the dumbest thing I ever encounter. Your battery voltage is probably around 12.3V. Get a new battery and find out why it dropped that low.

Mine did similar....
Thankfully it died at home in the driveway. All the dash lights would come on as usual with the exception of the odometer which was reading "-------" and the theft was flashing quickly. I figured it was the fuel pump so I did the big drop the tank hassle all for nothing. It still wouldn't work.
The local shade tree came by to have his shotgun fixed(I'm a gunsmith) and had a quick look. He pulled the big connector for the computer out and sprayed it with WD40 and shoved it back in and out a couple of times. The truck started immediately. I was so shocked I fixed his shooter for nothing and bought him a box of suds. I'll bet the dealers keep that one a secret...............m
