No oil pressure. '99 4.2l
Ok. Bought a '99 4.2l v6 f150 from a friends son. Said one day went out and cranked it an the oil pressure dropped and would not pick up. It was in the yard and that's where it stayed until I towed it to my place a mile away.
- I dropped the transmission to get the oil pan off instead of pulling the engine. So far I have cleaned the pan, the pick up and obviously replaced rear main seal and trans shaft seal. Looked at the rod and mains while at it and there was a little play in the to bearings but overall everything looked good and pretty well clean.
- put everything back in place and moved to the timing cover, replace the oil pressure relief valve and the oil pump itself. Sanded the surfaces smooth, not that thy looked bed to begin with. I poured oil onto the oil pump and bolted it up and filled the oil filter with oil and installed it. Cranked and still no oil pressure. Tried a mechanical gauge as well that my friend had left in they and still nothing. Any suggestions, questions or help period will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks, new to this forum. Took a minute to figure out.
Yeah, from what I understand, he said his son went to crank the truck and it started but the pressure gauge(dummy gauge in cluster) fell to zero and he could hear some noticeable chattering so he shut it off. Any cranking after that was minimal to troubleshoot the problem.
He put a mechanical gauge and a new oil pump on and had no change so he put the old oil pump back on and returned the new pump. I decided to buy it since they didn't want to put any money into it.
I have done everything from the original post in hopes to gain pressure but no luck. Does this oil pump need to be primed, maybe packed with petroleum jelly? Could sludge be blocking passages in the heads, preventing oil pickup or flow? The bottom end didn't look too bad with the pan removed and the pickup tube/screen was cleaned.
