You don't. It is a V shaped unit that is built into the mirror glass. At least that is how my Signal mirrors work from the factory I have If they go bad you replace the glass and signal V as one piece.

The earlier models have the signal built into the side of the mirror, not in the glass.

I've been wondering the same think about the bulb.i have a 2001 lariat and have thought of changing mine too. Stay tuned I suppose.

Mine was t/s's in a factory Signal brand mirror made for Ford. It has the V shaped signal built into the glass. I have a couple sets of replacements, but nothing will work to the oem mirror. I put on towing mirrors in their place. The glass w the signal was almost $98 plus shipping. Now NLA. The tow mirrors, when I bought them, were only $128. The take off's are sitting on the shelf. I looked again this morning, and it is a one piece replacement.

1997-99, Ford doesn't show a T/S replacement glass available anymore. 2000 up still shows a mirror glass for the signal mirrors. It's over 3 times the cost of the stock mirror glass. In the books, I have, it shows over $150, left or right side. These are books that are 10 years old, so no telling the pricing now, or if it's still available. The left side is YL3Z-17D742-AAA and the right YL3Z-17D743-AAA. You might check and see if those will work for you.

Both numbers are discontinued, but the 2000 up shows a spot for a pop in bulb , so if you are newer 2000 up, the bulb is changeable to a single bulb. 97-99 shows a one piece set up

2000 up use this glass which has a 194 style T10 LED bulb. Earlier are one piece. Here is a pic of the mirror back side for 2000 up.

My '99 Lariat had the Signal-branded LED "V" signals in the glass. When I was looking for temporary-use tow mirrors, I had a heck of a time convincing places that their slip-on mirrors *would* fit my signal mirrors, because everyone's books showed '99's having the "pod."

To address any compatibility questions, my'03 now sports the LED glass scavenged from the '99. I love those things.
