Default 1997 Model Year

What do you all think about this model year? I have been looking at getting a 2000-2003 model but I'm also considering a 1997 SuperCab because it costs less and the model looks basically the same. I just don't know if I want one that old. It's a two tone forest green/tan color. Looks sharp. It has 166K though but looks well maintained.

Thanks

Eh, one thing to consider is the 99+ v8's have a little bit more hp.

I'm not as concerned about power. Concerned more about reliability I guess...

I have a 98 with 142k on it, and it's still strong, mechanically speaking. Rusted to hell but it runs decent. To my knowledge, the only change from 97-98 is the tail pipe placement.

97 supercabs only had 3 doors. not 4 like the newer super cabs. The front grilles/bumpers were different. And if you're lucky enough, you'll score a 7/96 production date 97, which the headlights are a completely different setup then the later 97+ trucks. Other then the lower HP from the motor, their snot a huge diff. My 97's both get great mpgs, and run amazing. Wouldn't trade for anything.

These trucks are very reliable. My 99 which has the 5.4L has 137K on it and it runs srtong, just needs front brakes.

The one thing to ask is if it has had the recall done on it. I believe its recall # 112S11, for the fuel tank straps rusting.
