1997 Key Fob Remote programming ??? Different from 1998-03?
Hi. I we have a 1997 F150 XLT and it came with two remotes. One works. One doesn't.
They have the exact same numbers on the back. One says transmitter 1 the other says transmitter 2.
Transmitter 2, we never had batteries in, until today. It is not working. We would like it to work just in case we lock ourselves out again. (door locks are fubured)
I tried the programming method of key on/off/on but its not going into programming mode, whether its 3 times or 5 times or 8 times....
Is it different on the 1997's? Is it like the 94-96 rke with the connector that needs to be jumped?
Thanks.

The on/off 8 time method doesn't work with 97-98. 99-03 had PATS with chipped keys, so it allowed it to work. You're gonna have to get a locksmith with the equipment to program the remote, or take it to the dealer.

The on off method worked on my 98. Maybe it only worked because my trucks was made really late in 98 and has a hybrid of 99 and 98 wiring harness in it. I don't really see how it would be different though.
I understand you tried this already, but still worth the three minutes to make sure you didn't miss something. Could just be you have a new faulty key fob.

The remotes say TRW on them. I googled it and briefly read the search results and said it was for a RKE type system. If I emailed them, would they know how to program it?
I tried to get it to go into programming mode again, but its not working, and I really don't want to wear out the ignition switch.
I also talked to a buddy and he said there should be a way to program by holding down a valet? switch. But he couldn't tell me where it was or the exact process. Maybe he is talking about aftermarket alarms. I don't know.
Here is a picture of the remotes. I'm guessing they are factory. We bought the truck from a lady who owned it since 98 or 99.

Hmm, OK, those are apparently the OEM for '97.
The procedure is the same as later models, except it is 5 times on /off in less than 10 seconds ending in the on position, the doors should lock/unlock to confirm your in program mode. Press any button on a transmitter and the doors should lock/unlock, do all transmitters at the same time.
