1997 Ford F-150 4.6 4x4 misfiring

About a week ago I noticed my pickup was running rough and had a hesitation to it under acceleration along with a blinking check engine light. A day or two before this I busted through some snow drifts and also emptied our overhead gravity gas barrel into the pickup. So I had the pickup hooked up to a scanner and it showed a misfire on cylinder 4 and 8. Along with a code for the what I believe he said was a charcoal canister issue. This canister code had been an issue before that hadn’t been addressed but the pickup was running fine with it. So we switched out the plug wires and tried it, wasn’t the issue. Next we put new plugs in 4 and 8 cylinder and tried, trouble still persists. Next we replaced the coil pack that those went to, still had the issue. Now here I am wondering what to try next?? Also when driving there have been some popping noises that happen randomly. Pickup drives ok when cold or up to 55-60 mph but when it warms up the hesitation/chugging is felt all the time.

Gas barrel on legs. He let it run dry in to his tank.

He mentioned it because of possibley contaminating his tank with foreign matter.

Anyway yea, could cause numerous fuel issues doing that...it was a bad idea lol.

Probably, it's a farmer thing for the most part..and old school.

it wasn’t completely dry empty. Just to where there was a small stream of gas coming out instead of the normal flow which means it was close to being completely empty.

Still sounds like a high possibility this was self inflicted. Probably plugged the injectors. How long have the spark plugs been in there? Long enough to tell if cylinders 4 an 8 are running lean?

Wasnt ethanol. Just regular unleaded in there. Plugs were changed less than 2 years ago. Plug wires were original from 96. Pickup has 125,000 on it. Could it be a fuel filter issue? Not saying it’s not the issue but have ran the tank to this level before and never had issues

Those gravity feeds use old drums and no filters.
