1997 F-150 Remote stops start.

So I just got my hands on a 1997 F-150 if I use the remote to lock the doors then the key to unlock the doors, The truck will not start but if I press the unlock on the remote the truck will start. Any one know why this is happening or how I can fix this.

Huh, have to try that. I can't remember ever using the key to unlock lol.

Regardless, in the owners manual you can turn off certain features. Check that out.

Sounds like an aftermarket system. The stock ford system will disarm with the key.

Its not a aftermarket that much I know. Also thanks for the link.

anti-theft

So this link was a life saver, also thanks to Jbrew for telling me to look in the owners manual and to kd4gij for having the link to the owners manuals.
on page 51 and 52 it says "When an unauthorized entry occurs, the activated system will:
• flash the headlamps, parking lamps and the THEFT light PAN
• sound the horn
• prohibit the vehicle from starting.
The flashing headlamps and the honking horn automatically shut off after about three minutes and will remain off unless another unauthorized entry is attempted. However, the vehicle will not start until the system is disarmed."

So the question is why is it not turning off the anti-theft system when I use the key its not an after market key or remote system (I don't think after market remotes do this). The lights don't flash and the horn dose not go off the truck just doesn't start until I press the unlock button on the remote.

Just thinking out loud here and could be way off base cz I don't know this system intimately but could something in the door lock cylinder or related wires not be sending the proper signal to the pats system to allow the truck to start but when you push the unlock button it does? Idk never had to mess with the system lol

Thinking this thru some, my first question is, since you have to unlock the doors with the key, it that an actuator problem and being weak, so they can't lift the rod?

On the no switch integration without fob being pushed. I'm leaning to the white box under the drivers dash. They can get moisture just like the GEM and they are right on the upper inner firewall.

The 97-98's in the F series, do not have PATS. 97 and up Expy yes. Not all but yes to PATS in 97 98 Expy's. It's not a key problem. It is a signal problem. The only signal device to the doors is the white box or the fobs themselves. That's where I'd start.

Have problem with my 97 going off randomly. Would have to start truck to disable it. I purchased another module same result. Now have the bigger plug disconnected from module. Still able to use fob to unlock/lock doors as well as set alarm.
