What kind of sounds were you hearing to make u replace the rear u joint? If I go in reverse I get a click almost every time

I'd hear a click whenever I accelerated from a dead stop. Also, you can check your driveshaft for play just to be sure.

I have a 2001 screw 4x4 and wife has a 2000 expedition. Both have the 5.4. My truck has about 228K miles and the expy has 235K. My trucks drive and look like new. Maybe I have a head start down here because of the weather, but the secret has always been maintenance. If you hear a noise, don't ignore it. Check/change the fluids regularly. Btw, both of my trucks have original transmissions in them. Keep them cool and they will reward you.

The only thing not reliable about a Truck still on the road after this long is the owner & his Maintenance schedule.
