2002 4.6L ugh....
So I was given a 2002 Xtr 4x4 with 160,000kms because my father in law bought a new truck and I need another work truck for in town. The truck is in descent shape for the year but my wife took it one evening for about a ten minute drive and called me and said the oil light came on but the gauge is fine so I went and had a look and I couldn’t find anything so I drove it home. The next few times I drove it the light was on and off but the truck has lost a lot of power and the fuel mileage is really bad. So far I’ve checked vacuum lines they look fine including the usual one behind that usually causes problems. I replaced them to be safe. Did oil change, new fuel and air filter, replaced the exhaust cat back with my stock ecoboost exhaust becaus the muffler was shot, new fuel pressure regulator checked plugs and replaced the cops and put a new maf sensor but still no power low end it. It’s really sluggish and keeps revs high before shifting. There is a tick on the passenger side cant quite put my finger on what it is. No codes no cel...
Any suggestions? I seen somewhere on the about a piece of gasket stuck somewhere in the intake? I think that’s what it said it’s been a while. I’m about to scrap it but I’m already to far in to quit lol
thanks

Lost power and bad fuel milage- a bad thermostat will not let the engine temp. come up and the pcm will keep feeding extra fuel as if the engine was still cold- that causes a rich fuel mixture and can kill your power.- has your temp gauge reading changed? IIRC- the idiot light is more than just a oil pressure light, but, what it all indicates, that i dont recall.- use the search function here, there are a lot more knowledgeable folks than me- good luck, regards, Bear.

The light links to the CHT. It's a good set up considering the default limp or fail safe mode add on for these models. Well as long as it isn't the sensor itself that fails anyway.
The idiot gauge or sending unit when functioning correctly is fool proof. Only an idiot would ignore that gauge. It should always read 3/4 steady. Thing is, you have to form a habit in eyeballing it once in awhile since there's really no advanced warning telling you when it's erratic of falling off. Chances are, if the pump goes out, you'll hear noises before noticing the gauge, or a heat light from the CHT....and that's when fail safe mode kicks in. You will notice that lol.

If you've got a tick make damn sure the plugs are tight.
