4.2 V6 Overhead Valve is the most reliable on the 10th generation. Before 1997, all Ford trucks with V-type engines are Overhead Valve. Newer models are more unreliable because almost everything is controlled by the PCM.

and he strikes again.... What does this have to do with his potentially bad transfer case? And why do you have such a hard on for a 4.2 V6?

He said he can't afford much downtime.

Overhead Valve (OHV) Engines produce more low end torque than Overhead Cam (OHC) engines. OHV are cheaper to maintain and easy to work on.

In a 4.2 V6 OHV full open throttle & kick down shift will not destroy the AT if properly maintained.

V-type OHV have less moving parts
1 Camshaft, 1 Short Timing Chain

V-type SOHC have more moving parts
2 Camshaft, 2 Long timing Chain

More moving parts means that there are more places where something can go wrong. Simple Common Sense

Sad part is the Essex V6 (4.2) had more egine failures and replacements than the 46/5.4 trucks. So think again how much better your 4.2 is. Anyways back o topic.

Yup, because the stock intake manifold and timing cover gasket are faulty. The advantage of OHV is you can step on the throttle full open without destroying the automatic transmission. OHC is overheating the Torque Converter.
