03 f150 4.6 power mods
what are the easiest ways to get some power into these trucks? Seriously the slowest pos I've ever had. Lol. I've thought about switching from a 3.08 to a 3.73 or a 4.10 but Im not sure if it's really worth it. I literally have to put the pedal on the floor at every light to feel like I'm going somewhere. Is it help-able or are they doomed to being a sloth forever?

Clear to the floor sounds a bit excessive- these trucks are not hole shot queens anyway- but they are very good for what they were designed for- a pickup truck- to get noticeably more power you may have to invest more money in the engine than what the truck is worth-
My '03 s-crew has the 5.4- it has enough hp. and torque to do everything i expect out of a truck, but its still a truck.
Go to your local auto parts store and have them put the code reader on it- most places do that for free- check your fuel system, check your ignition ,check for vacuum leaks, and check your compression- if you are that down on power, then something should show up.
Just some mental fat to chew on- good hunting!
Regards, Bear.

I had a 97 and an 05. Both had the 4.6 with 3.55 gears. I thought performance was fine empty, but towing a trailer, both were dogs at low RPMs. I think a gear change would be one of the best ways to increase performance on your truck. 3.73s would be my choice. Parts and labor should run around $1000 per axle.

You must never have had a 4 cyl truck
I remember hitting big bridges at 55 in a 84 Ranger with 2.2L, only doing 35 by time got to top. with pedal on floor whole time.
No, your truck isnt a dog.. Its exactly what its supposed to be.
A truck. Not a sports car.
3.08 is gonna be slow. Thats for hauling. If you put tires on it bigger than door sticker, your just gonna make it slower

Sounds like your trying to make up for poor maintenance. These trucks aren't that slow.

Re-gear it.

Going from my 1991 GMC Sierra, this thing is slow as slow can be. Is it faster than a 4 cylinder ranger? Oh yeah, it's like a sports car in comparison. But compared to other half-ton trucks in the same year range with the same gearing, these things are extremely lacking in power... even the 5.4 pales in comparison to a Chevy 5.3 performance wise.
I will say this, they may be gutless, but with a load behind them, my 4.6 doesn't get bogged down any more than it already feels. The only mod that will give you real results is regearing it.

My truck has had impeccable maintenance, not to mention a brand new motor, and my 4.6 is slow as *****. Gearing definitely plays the biggest part in how quick the truck is though. 3.73 is the best mix of torque and gas mileage in my experience and I've got 3.55's.... and the thing will slow down on hills. I've never been in a vehicle where it had to downshift once to get up a small hill while maintaining highway speed.
