Default 02 4.2 v6 f150 4x4 idle problem pls help!

Have 2002 4.2 v6 f150 4x4 with 174k miles the truck starts, accelerates, and drives good but when I come to an idle it feels rough like it's bogging out or somthing. It does it often but not everytime I come to idle. Sometimes it sounds like it's about to die out but it doesn't. Please need some opinions. Oh and the service engine light is on. Please help!

Get your codes read is a good place to start. It likely will point you to the problem.

IAC or clogged egr port

These have a intake spacer issue. The part is around $200 from Ford, dealer only item. The spacer bolts to your plenum, and the bolts leak. Just did mine. Runs like a champ.

Had same prob. 02 4.2l. It was the upper plenum gasket as the isolator bolts. Plus had 4 egr ports clogged completely closed. Fixed that light went off as no pribs since. lol us found a vac leak but like said main prob was the upper intake plenum gasket and isolator bolts. I found a great site that tells ya how to fix it step by step with pics. I'll try and find it again and post it for ya. It's not really hard. Just the back 3 bolts on the upper intake are a SOB to get at. Other than that it's not bad. Did mine in bout 4-5 hours. Hope this helps some. Also u can get the bolts and gasket kit from almost any auto parts place. Heck I've seen em on amazon lol. Ran me bout 110-130 for parts. Ford wanted 700 to do it for me. LOL.

The part the dealer sells is the new updated part. And I agree the back 3 bolts are a bitch. I've done a ton of these. Get back there with a 10mm ratchet wrench. It puts up the least amount of fighting.
