Default 01 F150 4.2 blowing coolant under the hood

Got into my F150 today for a short drive to the local pharmacy (2 miles), parked, stepped out of my truck to see steam comming from under the hood. Looked underneath, frequent drops are forming small puddles on the pavement. Pissed, I went into the store, got what I needed, got into my truck and drove back home...carefully watching my temp guage. Popped the hood and checked out the situation, I have coolant all over the right side of my motor (facing the front, drivers side), up on wires, hoses, everything... a pretty good mess. What would cause this? I thought maybe a headgasket, but I've never seen a bad headgasket cause this much of a visible mess. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'm pretty much without a vehicle until I solve this problem...

Happy New Year!

Sounds like a blown radiator hose squeeze the hose and see if it's stiff or soft.

I hadthis same issue not too long ago. Check the metal fitting on the right side under the throttle body. Its a press in fitting and costs $30 only available from ford. To replace this part I had to remove the throttle body and intake plenum. I used stop leak to patch it up while I got the part ordered and had the time to fix it right. took about 4hr to do on my own dealership wanted $650 cost me $70 after buying new thermostat, plenum gaskets, and new intake isolator bolts, oh and the part from ford.

Hope that helps. It took a telescoping mirror and a flash light to see where the leak was.

if your thermostat is old... go ahead and change it too... that could have stuck closed and pressurized the system.. and makeing a fitting or hose blow

Sounds great, I'm going to check everything over, hoping its a simple problem. Never had any major issues with it, just hard to imagine its something as major as a headgasket.

My 99' did something similar, after a highway drive the engine would be covered in antifreeze. But while idling there would be no evidence of a leak. So I had a buddy rev it to 4k rpm's while I watched and sure enough, coolant sprayed from the upper radiator hose all over the engine, the oem spring-type clamp had worn out.

i so hate those damn spring clamps. lost a finger nail to one on a nissan i was working on. good idea for holding stuff together on the assymbly line, but not when u need to work on them, i prefer tradition hose clamps, at least tht way u can tighten it down some more if needed.
