Looking for recommendations for any good repair shops or solo mechanics in the Denver or Northern Colorado area who are cam phaser gurus. I have a 2010 Ford F150 with !50K+ miles and am having all the typical timing and cam phaser symptoms. I would like to get a Ford timing kit replacement and upgrade to Melling high volume oil pump. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

 

If you’re at 150k and already hearing the typical phaser rattle on cold start, you’re smart to address it sooner rather than later. Once they start getting noisy, it’s usually only a matter of time before it gets worse.

If you’re doing the job, I’d definitely recommend replacing the full timing set while you’re in there — phasers, chains, guides, tensioners, and the oil pump like you mentioned. A lot of people try to cut corners and only swap the phasers, but that usually isn’t worth the labor savings long term.

As far as shops in the Denver/Northern CO area, I’d look for an independent shop that regularly works on 5.4L/5.0 Coyote F-150s rather than a general repair place. The cam phaser job is pretty involved, and experience matters on this one. It might also be worth calling a few performance-oriented Ford shops since they tend to be more familiar with timing component upgrades.

If you don’t get many responses here, you could also try posting in the regional Colorado section or local Facebook F-150 groups — those tend to generate more location-specific recommendations.
