Synthetic or Convectional or Blend(Semi)
Hey,
I have a 2016 F-150 and I put on about 9000km yearly. I change my oil every 6 months.
Should I just do convectional or get semi since thats what the dealership puts in?
Thanks

Refer to your manual.
Owner.ford.com if you don't have a physical copy.
You should not use conventional oil. Some use semi-synthetic, some use synthetic. You also don't need to change it until the IOLM tells you, but if you want to, go ahead. Your money.

Yes I would agree and follow the IOLM as it monitors your driving pattern and figures out oil usage from there. Personally I use only full Synthetic with a synthetic specific oil filter, but this costs more. I would not go below a semi depending on where you live in Canada and how cold it gets in the winter. A synthetic will leave a coating of oil on the metal parts when the car is not running so at start up it is not as bad. Not all Synthetics are created equal as well. There are tons of YouTube videos showing the viscosity of each and how they react over time. this is a good article showing the difference

At this point semi Synthetic is the route I’d go, it may have a minuscule amount of synthetic but in my opinion, use the best oil your budget allows.
i personally use castrol 0w40 Full Synthetic because it has a -60 degree pour point and turbos, or bearing, like oil at startup.

Actually, any oil that meets the spec. is what you are "supposed" to use. Synthetic, blend, conventional. Just meet the spec. After that, apply any preferences.
