Plate sticker placement in Ontario ?!
Guys, when I took delivery of my truck the sales guy helped mount the plates. "Truck plates are mounted differently" he said, "the plate with the sticker goes in the front".
I always had the stickers on the rear plate, but I thought "this is a dealer- he knows this stuff". This morning I got pulled over for sticker placement and got a $200 ticket for not having them on my rear plate ! Could Ontarians please share this valuable piece of info about what side their sticker is on ?? |
I would be taking that ticket to the salesman and ask to be reimbursed. Climb the ladder to his manager, etc. That is total BS.

For commercial plates (black lettering) it goes on the front.
For private plates (blue lettering) it goes on the back. |
^^ personalized plates are blue and go on the front. truck plates are black lettered regardless of being commercial so front is correct

I didn't think you could get Blue plates for trucks. I thought they HAD to be black.
Truck plates (Black) have to have the sticker on the front plate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicl...980_to_present Confirmed, Trucks are deemed "Commercial" vehicles. and blue customization plates can not be used. I'm sure you can get BLACK customized plates though. Sticker must be top right of the front plate for trucks. |
They definitely allow blue personalized plates to be used on trucks. But I think I made the same mistake the cop did. It's not the colour of the plate that determines where the sticker goes, it's the fact that it's a truck (a "commercial vehicle" in Ontario), so it goes on the front.
So OP is right to fight the ticket. |
I've read a couple times as well, that you CAN use blue personalized plates on pickups, but you still HAVE to sticker the front.
I've also read about a red sticker that you can get that makes it a "personal" commercial plate that can cost less :) Agreed, fight that ticket! |
You can put personalized plates on anything. I’d fight the ticket, as far as I knew they had to be on the front Incase of towing. I’m not sure if blue plates are included in this if on a truck. I will add I had AJTD XXX in blue on an 85 bronco. Sticker on back. |
@BigM740
Did you get this resolved? Do personalized blue letter plates have plate with sticker on the front of truck just like the black letter plates? I've read there's a red sticker you can affix to indicate non commercial? Will be using my personalized plates from current vehicle (non commercial registration) on the F150 which will be exempt commercial registration as under 4500Kg even with my wet weight 1270 Kg tent trailer taken into consideration. |
