Sigh......... this area. I am not from Ardmore/Bonnyville originally..... I came over here after working here for years. I finally decided to buy a place when I started a business here two and half years ago and will dump my old one in Westlock. Didn't move actually until this fall. The only reason I mention this is "The Bonnyville Tax". I didn't actually call Ducharme as I don't want to go there.... so I called Cold Lake who is yes the same company but whatever. I asked for a quote on Monday for the Remote Access install. They took my information and to no real surprise never called. I called today and asked and they assured I would get a quote asap.... great. In the meantime I have been googling this for a while and Rodeo Ford in Medicine Hat is offering it for $614.99 installed.... not too shabby. Needless to say I called and booked it in with them for next week. So Cold Lake calls me back... yep wants $1500 for the system.... Okay. Awesome..... thanks.

Luckily I need to go to Sweetgrass to grab some parts for my CTS V so a trip to the Hat is not out of the question.

I totally get the tax. I end up working in that area sometimes, and I'm not a big fan. But that's more because of the people I know that live there and complain about stuff like that. The system at Medicine Hat is the one that can be used from a smart phone?

I notice the tax is more prominent with dealers for vehicles...... large oilfield fleets bring the I don't care attitude. Oh well.

Yes its the cell based app........ that nearly any dealer I have asked has never heard of lol.

Even with oilfield companies. We drive all f150s and 250s for work. Not a big fleet, but there's over 100, and if/when I drop trucks off at ducharme, it's a pita. They just don't seem to care in general. They must be doing well tho, to treat people like that. I'm gonna have to look into the med hat deal. I've been waiting to hear about getting it done in AB. If you grab it, def let us know how it goes!

Ducharme is pretty special though... mind you so is Dodge and Tercier is just awful really. But that is what I mean... fleets and nameless faceless bill payers. They don't need to care... charge whatever and you get paid. And where are you going to go? Convenience wins lol.

Yeah I will have it in next Thursday and see how it works. The guys at Rodeo have 9 kits in stock to do the job ( cell antenna and security modules) and only charge 1/2 an hour for install and setup. But that is included in the price anyways. I hope it works well.

Living in the region I feel your pain Badass69. Everything is more expensive up here so businesses can take advantage of the oil patch cash flow. And since I don't work in the oil field everything seems that much more expensive to me, LOL. Oh well, I won't live here forever.

I bought my truck at Ducharme and have had it serviced there ever since but now that I am nearly past the factory warranty (just about to hit 59K) I am going to start doing my own maintenance. I usually get a tire rotation, inspection, and oil change (full synthetic 0w20) to the tune of $260. I can do it all at home for $100 tops.

I am a small company in the oilfield myself and they try and rake us over the coals...... because the big companies let them have it done to them because it's such a small expense in the bucket they just don't care. That isn't exclusive to any one dealer out here..... it's all of them. I was surprised on parts for my old GMC though as Lake City was cheaper than even my old hometown dealer for a new encoder motor on the transfer case. But that says nothing for the service aspect of course.

For Ford I have always been told by fellow Ford owners of the area to deal with Zarowny in St Paul for service. I haven't dealt there but have friends that have. It's funny too as one in particular buys his trucks at Ducharme and services at Zarowny lol.

I am going to do all my own work on the truck, likely including some things that could be deemed "warranty" so my biggest thing will be a source for parts if it's something I want oem.

As long as you have a place you can do your own stuff that is comfortable, and hopefully warm, you will be light years ahead on cost!

Although I've never dealt with Zarowny's I have heard good things about their service department.

holy crap. I just had the remote access installed in my truck on Thursday at Koch ford in Edmonton. $486.50 taxes in. How in the hell can they justify $1500?? They must have no idea what they are doing. Even 650 is a lot but I get it if it is so remote.

Ian, was that cost to take it from the 200 series to the remote cell phone type? I wonder if it is the same to go from the OEM 100 series to the remote? I would be very interested in it, at that price.
