I never knew about an aftermarket air tube replacement for these trucks. I did the Gotts CAI mod but the PVC pipe cracked, and I am honestly a bit worried about using it so I switched back to stock. Does it increase the noise in the cab at highway speed (drone)?

It's my understanding that ford's already run lean from the factory so if you just put a cold air intake on without a programmer or at least have a tune you will lean the engine out even more and will start to throw codes under heavy acceleration. I have seen a 2006 f150 king ranch do this with an air raid intake.

Mine is 04 5.4 3v and has had KnN kit for most of its 88k miles. No lean issue at all for me.

My favorite CAI is the one I built myself lol. Made a mold and laid it up with fiberglass. Has 3 separate 4" inlets.

i have been running this set up for close to a year....like i said, the only thing changed is the tube which has the really small restriction in the fender and still retains the factory air box which i read is a really good stock piece.....opens it up a little...no more noticeable drone in cab....except when you hit the pedal and then maybe a little like the old q-jets....not quite that bad though....i think you would be pleased...it also cleans up the engine bay really nice

I have some store credit with CarID that I need to spend, and I REALLY don't want to do the Gotts mod again and risk cracking another plastic pipe... I need to get with the CarID people and get this thing ordered this weekend... I never thought of the stock airbox as being a problem source, but rather the silly intake tube design.

I have a XCal2 for my truck, do I need to reset the tune when I swap the tube over, or will it more or less carry over like the Gotts did?
