Default Strange Issue

05 4.6 4wd. No start no crank condition with gauges bouncing (not smoothly sweeping). This (gauges bouncing) occurs even AFTER key removed from ignition. If you disconnect a battery terminal wait a moment and reconnect it, symptoms disappear and trucks starts normally. Condition will occur again randomly at a subsequent start up.

I've read through somewhat similar issues people have had. Battery is not an issue (tried a new battery). Terminals are good / clean. I've read a few incidents of fusible links within the battery cable assembly going back so thinking of changing it (cable assembly) as a next step.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

check/clean/tighten grounds. Start with ones by kick panels in cab.

check/tighten cabling connections

have batt and alt professionally tested.

report back with findings and any changes in symptoms.

Sure sounds like a crappy battery connection to me. Sometimes the cable gets corroded in the jacket and starts being able to conduct less and less current.
