Driver's door handle rod out of place...help
So I've been working on installing a new door lock actuator on my '04 F150 (newer body style). I have it installed...but wehn I put everything back together, the door handle stays propped halfway open. After messing with it for awhile to figure out what's going on...I discovered that somehow the rod coming from the latch assembly to the top of the door handle assembly is off. When I lower the latch assembly below where it screws into, the handle goes fush with the assembly...but if I bring the latch assembly to where you screw it in, the rod goes too high and pushes the door handle open. Accidently, the door got shut and it won't open because the handle is half way out and won't engage the latch...a locksmith is coming out to go in through the passenger door...laugh...it's ok, I am, haha.
Why would the rod get out of place?? That rod was never messed with during the actuator installation...it screw up and down...I'm wondering if I need to screw it down...or if the latch assembly needs to be adjusted somehow...maybe the latch "lever" (no idea what you would call it) is in the wrong postion.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
