Window just fell into the door....

Follow the instructions on this link

One word of advice is to for the rear window, remove the bolt that is at the top, hidden under the molding that goes up the window, then the door panel lifts up and out, I didn't catch that while I was doing mine and stressed the clips holding it on. I bought a suction cup from Harbor Freight and that held the window in place no need to remove the glass. Take your time, keep your hands clean and it is as good as new when done.

Just wanted to post a thanks to everyone who posted regarding this thread it helped me tremendously.
I would just like to pat myself on the back also as I have just replaced my fourth window regulator on my 2004 SCREW...I feel proud.
Now if only Ford would be as helpful....and yes I am just a little bit perturbed.

Finally bought the unit for the front passenger (frt/rght) window that's been grinding for a while now. I bought the Dorman part from Rockauto. From the pics it looks like more comes with the Dorman part than the Motorcraft part, but we'll see in a few days when it shows up.

My first post and its about this..... LOL. My right front just dropped today after having the truck for 1 week. I guess it makes me feel better that its not just my truck?? I took it out and found all the cables wound around like a messed up winch. Very bad design. Off to the stealership to see what I can work out.

So i have searched and searched the internet about this problem, and it seems to be a pretty common thing with this truck. I was driving down the road, and for no good reason, the window just fell into the door, followed by the grinding noise countless other people have described after the incident.
My question to you folks is, what exactly went bad, how do I fix it, and where do i get the parts to fix it? I should have the mechanical know how to fix it myself, but i dont know exactly what part I need to replace. I am guessing its the regulator or the motor itself. Where is the best place to buy the parts? Anything I need to watch out for during this procedure?
Thanks for your help guys, I look forward to becoming an active member of this site.
Its an 04 Four Door, new body style.

Oy Vey.... I bought my 04 Lariat knowing the passenger side front window makes the grinding noise. I got more than the parts price knocked off the sale price so no biggy there, and replacing the regulator is no problem for me.
However, I'm not quite clear on the order of events that take place. Does the window usually drop, then the grinding happens with a possible outcome of no window functionality? Or does it start to grind before failing? The window currently goes up and down ok, other than the grinding.
It seems like no matter what, I need to have a new regulator on hand for the inevitable?

go to ROCKAUTO.COM, i got my window regulator off there brand new for $74.23 shipped to my door. its nearly identical to the factory ford one. the dealer wanted $192 for one. got myself a Clymer manual and changed it out myself, its fairly easy to be honest

Update on mine. The Dorman part was a direct fit, nothing special to get it to work. I hooked up the old regulator outside of the door and had it go up and down multiple times to see what was wrong. There was no visible cable damage or pulley damage to cause the grinding. However the grinding appeared to be coming from one of the pulley's bearings.
Since I bought the truck in Feb, I've used the passenger window 15-20 times (knowing it would fail soon if I kept using it) but it never did fail. And having no physical damaged to cables, motor, or pulley I'd recon mine would have kept going till the pulley locked up or sheared off. Either way, installing the new one was quick and easy.

Funny this happened to the 05 Lariat screw I was test driving while considering a purchase. The right passenger window wouldn't come up. The dealer fixed the issue of course. Bad first impression but I bought it anyway since the truck rocks. I figure it was no big deal since the windows on my Honda Accord that I was trading in has its window being propped up ghetto style as well. Happens to all cars I figure. I used to have a Volkswagen that had the same issue - now those cost an arm and a leg to fix so Ford is pretty inexpensive by comparison.
