They're a lot tougher than they say, but they gotta keep people from overloading their truck and then driving like maniacs...
I got to load my truck down today. She took 30 sheets of (really wet) 3/4 inch OSB. No real saggage the only trouble I ran into was suspension travel. The trailer hitch hit on some speed bumps (they were 10 inches tall, and I MAY have hit it a little too fast...)

I have an 05 XL short bed and everything is stock. I have hauled, on 2 seperate occasions, 3000 lbs of topsoil. The truck was almost level at that point and I probably could have taken some more. The guy loading it was amazed.

And Bocody....I was honestly kind of scared when we put 1600 lbs in the back of mine but since you've done 3000....I think I'm going to need to test this out for sure.

Id say that hauling 3,000 pounds in the back of an F-150 is seriously pressing your luck.
No doubt the truck will hold that much weight, but heaven help you if you ever had to stop that load in a hurry.
