Default Why don't rebuilt transmissions last as long as factory new ones ??

So, my factory trans lasted 127k miles, then it failed, had totally rebuilt locally, 3 years and 9 months ago, only made it 43k miles. Supposedly darn near everything but the case was replaced last time, was $2800 and came with 3 year/100k warranty. I expected much longer life from it than 43k. And yes, was serviced every year regardless of mileage.
Why don't they last as long?

Transmission shops are up there with used car dealers and funeral homes. Warranty is usually worthless. About the only ones you can trust are factory rebuilts.

Interesting. My local mechanic doesn't rebuild transmissions, but he does replace them with remans. He says he's put in dozens of Jasper transmissions without any issues and none have come back. But, he installed a Ford reman that he got from the dealer, and it only lasted a few hundred miles, pulled it and installed another Ford reman, and now, a few months later, this one is having issues as well. Ford says they'll pay the labor to remove and replace, he submitted his invoice weeks ago (using Fords labor time guide, they only pay so much) and is getting jerked around, they're very slow to pay, and now he has to submit a second invoice for the second defective transmission. Not sure I trust the Ford remans, That being said, not sure I trust Jasper either.

Did he machine the servo bore and sleeve it? If not... There is your problem.

And seeing how your mechanic uses the wrong fluid... That's probably why they won't pay him...

That is what my local garage (trusted Ford garage) recommended to me on my '07 Expedition EL (Eddie Bauer).....quoted me $4900 out the door. Wasn't worth it for my situation so I just sold it last week for $3K cash as is with 170K miles on it. Reman is the way to go though....and shop around.

Its all about the guy doing the rebuild. Not all shops are created equal. I happen to know the guy that does rebuilds for one of the shops in town and I put my trust in him (the local racers hand over their high end race trans work to him).

Like anything else their are good and bad trans "specialists" and you need to find out where the good ones work.
