If you can duplicate it without driving it at 50 to 70 such speeds then it will really narrow it down to engine related issues. Probably being bearing related. If you have read earlier threads, the factory alternator bearing do make noise. A somewhat expensive fix, even if you do it yourself so make sure.
Good luck!
I did run it between 50-70 mph with the O/D off, and it didn't change sound or intensity at that speed even with the higher RPM's. I only hear it between 50-70 mph, and lately it is the most noticable between 50-55mph. Do you think it is still a pulley or pulley/bearing issue even with the changes in RPM? Like I said, you really only hear it after 50mph regardless of RPM

I didn't read all the posts, but i thought i'd throw my 2cents in...

You may want to check the grounds for your radio. My tensioner bearing took a crap and the whine changed with RPM and especially at higher RPM- the worse it got. You may have a corroded ground under the hood or along the frame...or maybe even behind the radio in the dash.

Default whistling noise

i get that whining noise too only when i really step on it and it gets close to red lining. almost sounds like a supercharger whistle. im guessing it may have to deal with the intake manifold or like you guys said the idler pulley and/or belt

Do you have an aftermarket cold air intake?

The BBK cai on my Mustang whines while driving. I even replaced a wheel bearing when I first got it because I thought that was the source of the noise.

The only thing that is a constant at that speed are the wheels and wind. Does the sound change during a fairly sharp left curve or right curve? If it does then it is wheel related. Turning the steering wheel to the left and right. Taking a curve at about 40, I was test driving a car with my son. The outside wheel (left) in a right hand curve made alot of noise, left hand curve there was not any noise, and going straight no sound. That told me that the car had a bad cv joint. These are a lot of simple things that even if you don't find the problem, you can tell the mechanic what you have done and that will help him diagnose it a little faster. Still can't understand why it is not a bearing noise under the hood.

I get the same noise to talk to my mechanic and we drove it but my noise is coming from the rear and I have a bearing going bad in the rear end $700 fix. Only makes the noose at 55-75mph

To answer your questions, I don't have a CAI, just the Gotts Mod.

I did turn the wheels left and right at those speeds and the noise didn't change, did it with the mechanic in the truck too and we ruled out a wheel bearing, that's not the noise..

I still agree that it is some kind of bearing or pulley. He said the issue is trying to diagnose it, because you can't put a stethoscope on the pulleys while the truck is doing 55-70 mph lol

I thought maybe it was differential noise myself, but he's not so sure..It definitely seems to be coming from the front end though, not the rear..Maybe I'll take it back to him and have him look at the front end/front diff

You guys think he'd be able to diagnose a pulley/bearing with a stethoscope even if the truck is just idling and not making the noise?

I've got an update on this:

The seal where the axle goes into the front diff was leaking so I the dealer pulled it and flushed out the diff. They didn't find any metal shavings but the fluid looked really bad and the guy said it looked like water got in there.

Question is, could dirty, diff fluid cause the "whining" noise I'm hearing at high speeds?

Default Abnormal Noise at speeds above 45-mph

I should have read this forum prior to buying my 2016 F150 Super Crew 4x4 V8 lemon. I am having the same issue, and have taken the truck to different Ford Dealerships 4 times. They claim it is normal operating sound of vehile (sounds more like an El Camino from the 70's), and will not even attempt to repair it. I even went through the entire Lemon Law Arbitration through the Better Business Bureau, and the decision just arrived today that my claim has been denied. I am stuck with this F150 lemon until I use other legal resources available at my expense in hopes pf getting rid of this piece of junk. Can't wait to sell it and never deal with Ford again. Reading this forum makes me conclude that Ford knows for sure this is an existing defect but do not want to come forward. Ironically, I received a flyer in my mailbox by Ford for an extended warranty offer, which reads "Ford, Who can you trust?
