I had(have) the whine, mine would only come from 1st gear into 2md and then would fade out. Ford garage looked at it and said the noise was planetary gears and it would happen sometimes.

They said they didnt do anything at all to my truck but the noise went away for the most part. I can hear it sometimes now just not as loud as it was. Im not sure if I believe them.

WELL....

dropped my pan and my Tranny fluids burnt, magnet's filled with metal fuzz (and a screw ). After pulling the serpentine belt, it turns out the whine's still there. Looks like it's the tranny

I know! lol ... I just wanted to check the fluid anyways and it was a good thing I did because it needed to be changed. He said it was one of two things so I was did more research to try and find out which one.

P.S. There was like 3 quarts too much tranny oil in there So it could be the oil pump. Don't worry once I get the money ur dad will get my business. He's a good guy and I appreciate him looking at it for me.

Default i have the same problem

I have a mechanic buddy who took a look at it and said my alternator bearing is starting to go...the bearing is relativly cheap to replace its just the labour to get everything done...mine has just started to go and only squeels at hi revs so its not the biggest problem at the moment..he said it shouldnt affect the alternator too much or put you at risk to wreck your alternator so its just a matter of finding a good place to diagnose your truck....most mechanics should be able to figure it out just dont let them tell u its the alternator..if they do walk away...

My 2003 SuperCrew 5.4 just started to whine at 165k miles. I thought it was the rear diff. I changed the fluid, and found no wear on gears. I jacked it up, removed both rear wheels and put it in drive. It sounds like a tranny bearing is whining where the drive shaft connects. But the sound resonates to the rear when I'm driving it which made me believe the rearend was the problem. I read this is common problem on Ford trannys, and expensive to repair. Not sure if this what you're hearing or not.

Default Had the same problem

I have the same problem on my 2009 F150 Platinum. It didn't start until the ford dealer told me I had a leak coming from my Trans. He gave me a work order and told me how much it cost. I ended up doing it my self and now I have this whine. I checked the fluid levels and they are all fine. The part I replaced was called a Bullhead connector, I am almost certain this is the main cause of my problem.

It happens when it's cold or warm outside. I have no idea how to fix this problem as I have already swapped out the 2nd bulkhead connector and still have a problem.
