Not sure what you are saying, what's the difference between ford reman and Powertrains? While I have not done business with them, the op was looking for sources for a 5.4 and that's what I provided.

ford rebuilds them back to their specs. powertrain corrects the issues that ford created with the motors. now by no means am i saying ford doesnt know what they are doing. i have had a very good experience with powertrain products and this is why i am suggesting them. the 5.4 i got from them and is now in my 250 work truck is a monster. i pull a 16 ft enclosed trailer all day everyday in the summer for my pool business and its great! i i wish i had a diesel BUT my new motor 250 actually pulls better then my tuned f150.... so when my 150 motor goes, i'll be going again with powertrain products

So can you tell me how they corrected these issues? From my experiences, yes there were problems but Ford has corrected these and aftermarket does not seem to be better in any case. You say they corrected these Im curious as to how and what they did?

the cam phaser issue is addressed. I don't know if they do a lockout or not BUT they claim they corrected the problem. they also change the VCT solenoids to the newer OEM ones to keep them from getting blockage. obviously they dont use the 2 piece spark plugs.

and as far as FORD saying they fixed these issues is a very gray area..... dealerships will tell you that engines built past october of 07 dont have the issues BUT i know guys that have 09s and 10s that have these problems.... so i take what FORD says with a grain of salt.

All of that is addressed with a Ford reman as well. If they use a lockout I would never touch one of those! That is not a fix. From reading the link you posted it appears they do everything that would be done on a Ford reman except I wouldn't want my heads drilled out and rewelded. These engines really don't have problems spitting the plugs out. That is more of a 2v problem.

The only thing fixed after October of 07 was the heads were changed to address the plugs breaking off. The changes for the rest of the stuff came after 2010 I believe.

if FORD remans cover these issues then great! go that route. I like my powertrain products motor. I have had a great experience with them unlike dealing with numerous FORD dealerships on the problems. My experience along with alot of other on this forum have been good with powertrain thats why i suggest them.

No problem, I was mostly curious as to the improvements they have made. It all sounds good other than drilling out the plug holes. I would think it would be much better to just put on updated heads that don't have the plug problems but that's probably more expensive. That worries me that they could be cutting corners. As I said the plugs blowing out is not really a common problem with the 3v so it just seems to me like they're trying to hype theirs as better (which everyone does) and from my experience OEM has always been better. Thank you for the link to better my knowledge.
