Wheel bearing whine in 2 wheel drive
2005 Ford F150 XLT 5.4 4x4
The truck only makes a whining noise in 2 wheel drive. 4x4H and 4x4L work just fine and make no extra noises. I can hear the transfer case click into 4x4H and 4x4L but cannot hear it engage back into 2 wheel drive, I only hear a low 'click' from the solenoid.
The old wheel bearing was worn and replaced but I've never had this problem before. The 4x4 wouldn't work after I changed the wheel bearing and I fixed it by tapping on the solenoid with a mallet.
Any advice on what to check would be greatly appreciated. I am fairly unfamiliar with this vacuum 4x4 stuff.
Thanks guys!

the transfer case should disengage when in 2 wheel drive. you can check your iwe's by jacking up the front wheels. with the engine off you can spin the wheel the axle shaft should spin with the wheel. then start the engine and spin the wheels the axles should not turn. when the engine is running vacuum is applied to the iwe's disengaging them.if they turn with the engine running you'll have to trace the problem. possibly clogged vacuum line, bad iwe, bad solenoid.etc heres a pic of the iwe you can see the vac and vent ports
