Whats your answer to the Staked on U-joint BS
I have a minor vibration when releasing the pedal at freeway speeds, which led me to believe my U-joints probably need to be replaced. Then I find out the mother Bleepers are not Serviceable???? REALLY so far after contacting a few folks the only answer I have found is to have a shop build me a brand new driveshaft for the tune of $425.00 + tax. There has to be something im missing here. Is there not an aftermarket replacement shaft being made somewhere? I need a one off custom built unit to do routine maintenance on my truck WTF!!!!! all I wanted to do was fix my pinion seal leak, which is very minor at the moment, but has to be caused by the vibration of the shaft. Does anyone have any input on this?? 2004 F-150 4X4 Super cab 6.5 ft box One piece driveshaft, factory part number 4L 34-4602-ME

My buddy brought his truck over to me to do his u joints and i found the same bull**** on his truck. Its just plain stupid. There is a tool you can buy or maybe rent that you grind the cups out with. Total pain in the ***. I would just do what he did and just buy a new driveshaft.

i was gonna go that route first, but after searching for that kit and talking to the parts guy at my local dealer, everyone has the same answer. Those kits are garbage and apparently have a high rate of failure by creating more slack in the joint and causing more vibration. Plus I cannot find them anywhere except on ebay. I know im not the first that had this issue and find it hard to believe that every person that has encountered this has had to have a custom driveshaft made. The dealership referred me to the same shop I had already been in contact with. WTF

click the link it will take you to a picture of a "staked" on U-joint. They need to shoot the engineer hack that designed this, as well as every person that approved it. Well, its off my desk ahhhh time to kick my feet up and relax, Im glad that's over.

The main visual difference is that there are no retainer clips in the joint. My short term fix was a junkyard driveshaft. Longer term if I keep the truck is a new shaft built by the local driveshaft service shop.
