I would suggest not using PVC pipe for the pole. You will not be able to drive at any kind of speed with it. Lowes sells an 8' aluminum pipe in the metal stock section for like $15 that you could polish to a nice shine and it would be strong enough to hold the flag while driving at speed.

How would you mount it to the truck bed though?

Probably a better idea to do the aluminum. I was thinking that maybe I can get a fishing holder and mount it on my tailgate and put a built through the holder and the pole to hold it down.

Would there be a way to put the flag pole in the sides of the truck bed in one of those little squares? I want to get a flag pole too

You probably could like have a square with a cylinder in the middle to hold the pole then put the square down on the hole and 4 screws to the square to hold it down.

I have a bed cover on my truck. Any idea as to how you could make a hitch mounted flagpole holder?

If you cn get your hands on a hitch without the ball and find an aluminum or steel pole have two bolts above and below on the hitch to hold the pole. Or just weld the pole to the hitch that does not have a ball
