Hell bent steel leveling kits on ebay right now for 85 dollars.

I've had mine for around 60,000 miles. No issues.

As a newb myself, I had the same question, triggered by this thread. I found a very helpful discussion/FAQ here: https://www.f150forum.com/f7/leveling-kits-faq-87676/.

Sorry, I haven't read through your whole thread here, but I wanted to recommend something to fix the issue you are talking about. The part you speak of is the "cowl" and like all of the other black ABS plastics on our trucks (Non King Ranch models have mostly black plastic) they can be revived with a product called Showroom New. I am very new on this particular forum so I don't want to post a link. Just google it. I did my bed rails, drivers door handle and tailgate cap yeterday, I did my cowl tonight (ran out of light), still need to do my passengers door handle, grille, and rear bumper step pad.

The stuff is a dye that soaks into the plastic and turns it black again. My truck went gray about 5 years ago... I put it on then, and it just recently noticed it needed to be done... It works great, and it cheap... I think I paid $25.00 for an 8oz bottle...
