Default Dembruski --Good post

The more I think about it, I lean your way . Very difficult to get all water out . So adding straight 3 gallons makes sense to me . I never tried to measure dump . Kudos to you for the info .
I use wal mart distilled for mix, I will use it for the flush instead then test after running . I will use about 10 gallons for flush at 90 cents/gallon or so that is cheap . I will go back to just topping off with straight antifreeze .

I only use about 5-6 gals of distilled water to flushing out the system, so you must have had a really dirty one. I buy mine at a place that sells it in 6-packs, so it's a bit cheaper than buying it individually. Any left over helps me top off my marine battery as needed.

So it's the silicates that's the real killer combined with the water? Ok, sounds reasonable. The last time I changed the coolant in my Honda I read the backs of the jugs and saw that some have silicates and some specifically said no silicates but didn't think much about it. I'll make sure to get anti freeze from now on without

Yes it is. It also doesn't do your radiator/heater core any good either. Its a cheaper additive to make antifreeze-that's why it is used.
