Default What should I offer for this '06 with 104k miles

Hi everyone!

Looking to get my first truck and I found this one on my local craigslist here in Illinois. 06' SCab with 104k miles, 5.4l engine and 4wd. Owner is saying that there's no rust and that its only been in the winter one time which makes me think its a truck from down south. He's asking $11k which gut feeling seems high but being my first truck, I will admit I don't know that much. I'm already familiar somewhat with the common issues for this generation so that hopefully will play into negotiations but I am looking for some recommendations on what to offer the guy.

The listing reads as follows
2006 ford f150 4x4 extended cab
5.4 liter tritan v8
Auto trans
Loaded
Newer tires, brakes
No rust
Runs great
104,000 miles
All highway miles
Tow package
Bedliner
Running boards
You wont find a nicer truck. No rust, rockers are MINT
Only driven in the winter 1 time since new.

what other f150s' can you find in your area for 11k? that will determine what to offer him.
that sounds more like dealer price around my area, but that's my area...

truck looks pretty clean visually in the pics...

KBB says 10k max for that. I'd offer 9k.

Wow, that looks better than my truck and mine is a 2014. Amazingly well maintained. That being said I would agree 9k is a fair price.

That truck is clean. 11k is a little steep for that truck. If it were a Lariat 11k wouldnt be a bad price. Personally I wouldnt pay more than 10k for it

If you have the dealer to the plugs could run $500 to $1000. I would just buy the Lisle extraction tool and do that job yourself.

If the timing is still good on that truck (you can listen to the motor), and you just keep up with regular oil changes you should be able to get to 200k plus. I'm at 180k with the original timing components and it runs great. I'm not sure what the labor would be for a timing job, but I remember reading that if you need to pay the labor it's in the range of getting a crate motor. So a few grand.

Timing job complete parts $1400,labor around $1500. Reman base cost of engine $3200. Avg labor $1500. But you have to jump in do a lot of cleaning on move over parts . Fluids ,hoses belts , pulleys water pump etc can run stuff up .
Check if plugs have been changed ,pull an easy one see if new type.Yes the lisle tool is very necessary .Truck price seems high for what it is .This is not a cheap truck to take care of .4wd is just another thing to break . This isn't a lariat super crew either.

This.

Does the engine make any noise now? If so, that may be why he's selling it. If you catch it early when the tensioners first start to leak down, you should be fine with replacing the tensioners with the ratchet models, replace the guides, and add a high volume oil pump. If the noise has spread to the timing chain and top of the engine, you may still have engine noise after doing the timing kit, phasers etc. due to the cams and bearing surfaces being starved for oil and scoring. If you need more than just tensioners, guides and an oil pump, I would go with a crate engine. Check out AER Manufacturing. Good luck.
