Only happens when truck is HOT, in drive, ac on, and when turning the wheel (sometimes for a slit second when accelerating from a stop). I don't think it's phasers because it will stop if I turn the ac off....suggestions??

man, that's strange. Can you get a helper to turn the wheel while you poke around. of course someone you trust because it has to be in drive

Im thinking steering pump but I've never heard that sound from one, not with that knock

I would think if it was the PS pump it would do it regardless if the AC was on or off....This is an odd one for sure....

You joke but I swear to you on more than one occasion my wife has hit the gas rather then the brake when Im under there and gets mad at me when I talk to her like a 3 year old. Im worth more dead then alive but geeze, she"ll only cripple me. Seriously, put some 4x4's under all wheels and have a look

I'll get it up on some stands and poke around. I have the 2nd and 3rd off as well so i'll have plenty of time to diagnose. The weird thing is, the truck drives fine, no performance issues. No issues with fuel economy. The serpentine belt is newish, and the tensioner is still good. A/C cools great and has no issues cooling off on a hot day, except at idle when the condenser heat soaks. This is why I'm so lost on this weird noise. The truck really does sound like a diesel when it does that noise....
