The shell is just the sheet metal, you would have to remove the handle and latches/ rods, and install them into the new shell. They come just like any other body panel, in that black primer, have it painted then put it together.

Yes, it's the main piece (front and back welded together), their should be a panel on the inside ( I havent' really looked at mine) that un bolts and thats how you get to the handle, and unclip the rods that unlatch it. the latches should be bolted in to the ends ot the tailgate. and you need to take off the cables, they are bolted into the end as well. the Ford Oval (if it has studs) will be accessable when you take the panel off the back and take off the handle. hopefully you get lucky pulling off the plastic runner across the top, do it in a heated space, let the plastic warm up, less chance of breaking off the keepers.

I'm guessing you dented yours in?

i have to take pics of it bro lmao its unbelievable the back of the tailgate it tied on by bolts and its sleeved into the outer.. the sleeve on the left side ripped and folded out and which caused the tailgate to twist.. i think this is from the stupid bushing on the left side cracked (cant find that bushing)

Yeah definatly sounds like you need a shell. Look around on ebay, Craigslist, and call salvage yards. Try to find a good used take off. Some of the aftermarket stuff doesn't fit good. And by some, I mean most.
