Default What did you pay to change gears

I was wanderin the average price on gear changes. I have bigger tire and wanted better gas mileage.

Its not cheap and if its 4wd its a lot more. Say 600 an axle.

Did them last week 4.56 and a eaton ls. 1992.00

You are looking at $1,000 plus for whole job on 4x4. Rates will vary drastically with where you go, and how long it takes the mechanic. Some places are straight $ per job ( most mechanics ) and some are actually by the hour.

Damn are yall talkin buying and having them done or what hell i see 4.11 gears for around 220 and then some elbow grease should get it done alot sheeper ha for those prices you could buy a stage 2 cam from comp cams i almost hit my knees seein those prices cause my knees got weak

Well gears are the type of job if you haven't done it before, or don't have somebody helping who has, can be a major pain in the rear to do, especially shimming them in correctly so don't get gear whine afterwards.

Yeah gears are not to be done in your driveway. If you do your own gears and think it is drop and go, please do me a favor and put "I did my own gears" on your tailgate so I know not to follow close. You have pinion depth and backlash that needs to be measured. I would say I am a fairly good garage mechanic but I would never attempt gears on my own.

I never said it was drop and go but i guess i forgot alot of people cant do **** themselves nowadays ha i grew up doing everything in the carport seems like only thing missing is a lift which holds me back alot as the trucks lowered....dont ever learn if you dont ever try

Yea i just watched what all gear swaps entail and id definately try it but you need special tools and a good amount of time so its sure as hell not for the novice oil changer hahaa
