wet carpet 05 lariat

This may have ben posted about but couldn't find it. I have an 05 lariat extended cab. I've had it for less than a year. I noticed the carpet was soaked on the drivers side especially in the back where the rear seat bolts to the floor.(probably worse because its a low spot). I know older cars have issues with the sunroof leaking and the rear sliding window leaking but I've checked on rainy days and see no water building up in the track(as if the weather seal is leaking) the issue is only on the drivers side. Front and back carpet. Also the power sliding rear window is now not working..... but luckily it stopped when it was closed..... the issue was noticed before the windo quit out. Any help would be appreciated!

Third brake light is common leak. Other than that, double check all your fittings in the firewall.

Third brake light is common, the day I bought mine I brought it back to the dealership and they fixed it quick. I'd say go through an automatic wash and watch all the seals.

I agree it's likely the brake light. Mine did the same thing and my truck was soaked on the inside after a big rain. I had to pull the rear seat out, and lift the carpet up to let it all dry out. Here's a picture of where my light goes. You can see where the seal had lost contact with the sheet metal at the top and was just letting water run right in. Needless to say I really sealed it up good when I put it back on.

Thanks for the help! I will check the 3rd brake light. Should I get a new gasket from ford or just use a silicone based sealant?

Rick's 06 01-04-2014 10:55 AM

I used silicone on the seal surface and then I put a bead of silicone around the lens after I had it installed. I did not replace the gasket seal. Mine has been fine for a couple years that way.

Thanks! I'll give that a shot.

Make sure you dry it out well or you will end up with cab corners like alot of us have.

I checked it out it is the 3rd brake light. Moisture and junk has gotten into the lenses and the brake light warped the socket so I'm got an led aftermarket. Just ordered the recon with the smoked lense. Ill post pics when it comes in. THANKS FOR THE HELP!

Mine crew cab with power rear windows, I noticed the back seat was wet mainly the top part so I bought a new 3rd brake light and it still leaks. It's obviously my sliding rear window, which sucks. I plan on taking everything out and finding the spot it's just been to cold and ****ty out lately. While I'm at it I can finally get the code for my door lock buttons. Anyways 3rd brake light leaking is common, back window not so much and much harder to fix, yay for me.
