Default Westin winch mount

Well like a lot of other folks looking to mount a winch on their 04-08s, I found that there really wasn't any love from the aftermarket for a simple mount without having to spend $1500+ on a full custom bumper.
I figured that I would take a shot and ordered a Westin winch mount for a 09-14 and it kinda fit.
When I say kinda, I mean the upright mounts were a bitch. It's meant to use the 2 tow hook holes plus a 3rd one right behind, that 3rd hole didn't line up. The uprights also had a wrap around part to the side of the frame that fits in the pocket for the body mount that uses a carriage bolt. The driver side fit, but only if you put a few threads on both tow hook bolts and the side bolt and tightened in a rotating sequence. The passenger side upright side bolt didn't line up, so I had to drill out the square carriage bolt hole to a 1/2 and use a regular nut and bolt (which is a real pain being inside the frame with a small oval hole to access). Again tighten in a rotating sequence.
Once the brackets are nice and tight (pushing into the chrome part of my bumper and bending it slightly) it was time to mount the winch plate. Well, the mounting holes are 1/2 inch off, 1/4 each side and the brackets don't set out far enough away from the bumper. The 09-14 bumper is flatter.
I ended up drilling new 1/2 inch mounting holes in the plate that allowed me to move it away from the bumper about 3/8 away. I was also able to reuse my factory tow hooks. Bolting them to 2 of the 3 holes for Westin's pricy tow hooks for this unit.
So, if you like the look of the Westin winch mount, but have a 04-08, it's possible to use the 09-14.

This is very interesting. I have been looking for an inexpensive way to mount a winch and did, really want to buy a whole new bumper. I'll have to check this out. Did you cut the bumper to make this fit?
