+1 on that. Rolling the windows down will get old real quick. Anyways the cops have a good reason to pull people over and ticket them, its safety hazard to them.

Not to mention I've noticed that with anything darker then 35% you can't see sh*t while making left hand turns or backing up without a back up camera.

Here where I live, unfortunately it's kinda based on what you're driving. If you're driving an '86 Cutlas with 20" rims and dark tint...you're getting stopped. If you're in a nice 4x4 truck, or high end car, they (the police ) around here usually don't give you a second look. I had 5% on the rear on top of factory smoked glass and 20% mirror tint on the sides, and had police sit next to me at an intersection and never even look at me... It's really based on what they perceive as a vehicle that could hold a potential threat. I pulled mine off because I couldn't see well at night with it on there.

I'd probably be behind bars for something like that in good ol' New York, LOL! Back in '87 I tinted the windows on my brand new Silverado and never got a second look from a cop...owned that truck for 13 years......today would be a different story. I'd love to have my windows tinted but these days it's just not worth the potential hassle.

The best trick is when you see a cop, roll down the window across your truck from him, so it let's more light through and makes the windows look much less tinted. And that way the cop doesn't see you rolling your windows down. I have limo all the way around and about 6" on the windshield. This way works when it's cold out, too.

Guys, sure some of us are tools, but even the dumbest know what is illegal tint a d what is close and what isn't.

I'm cop in NY and tint was only a legitimate basis for a stop...I never cared if it was dark. If it was dark and I couldn't see, you were told to exit the vehicle with license in one hand and reg in the other and walk back to me.

Whole lot of extra scrutiny for sure but not anything we are t used to dealing with. How YOU dealt with it determined what if any tickets you received. You have attitude caus my gun is out and by my leg and don't understand I can't see in your car?? Then you sure need to be aware of what your tint caused. If once told hey bro I can't see in your car so this is why ur coming to me and I'm prepared the way I am..you get it! Then unless you have some other issue like suspension or weed, etc... No tix from me.

I concur in reguard to those complaining about tint tickets. I didn't like them, but I paid them, and ultimately removed the tint and sold the car. I do wonder though, my tint is never darker than 35% and you can see into the car, but....why is tint a first offence to pull me over for? Really? No real crime going on?

Devil's advocate: Taking the risk is part of the job, including coming up on suspicious vehicles. I could be packing and have zero tint, and perhaps instead of a gun my car is wired to blow? I do not envy law enforcement or rescue/fire personnel, nor do I have any beef with them as they are people as well.
