OK its not blown. its just in very bad shape. and yes my maintenance of my truck has been top notch since day 1. oil, plugs, COPs, fuel filter, fuel pump control module, etc etc etc... and yes i could have probably run mine until it locked up but why would i do that? I had the money to just start over and have a truck ( which i love) that will last me for along time.

Thats what i'm doing. the truck cosmetically is in great shape. the transmission was rebuilt 6 months ago. I can put some good money into it with a new motor and now lift it then I'm done. I have the truck I've always loved finished, paid for and here to last me a long time.

LOL, did the chain jump a tooth and throw the timing off? Usually they wont lock up unless they jump a couple teeth or have really bad oil pressure usually due to a clogged pickup tube. Did you have broken guides? Blown tensioners? What all happened?

the chain has some bad scrape/nicks on it... we found alot of metal shavings when we put an extendable magnet down there. when we pulled the VCT solenoids the micro screens basically fell apart as we were pulling it from the tube. I'm sure a few pieces fell down behind the timing cover. with all that would need to be repaired, it just made more sense to invest more money in it with a new motor. My transmission was rebuilt with monster internals 7 months ago, the interior and exterior are in great shape, front and rear diffs have been maintained frequently and the gear oil has always been clean, the CATs and exhaust are new with the last year, tires are new, my hub assemblies are all new so I will soon have a newish truck when the motor and lift are done. It's paid for and i had been tossing around the idea to trade up BUT with all this I figured put what I had saved for a down payment, use that to do a new motor and lift then I have my dream truck done.

man i like where your mindset is ! I'd love to BUT I'm using the cash i set aside to use as a downpayment for a new truck on the new motor and lift sooooo a blower would kill that budget.

I doubt the vcts caused the problem
More likely the tensioners blew out and it got low oil pressure losing tension ,chains whipping around breaking guides then jumping time . If the valve and heads okay and cams in decent shape you are turning a $1600 parts job into 7k.
Your engine will go to a reman outfit they will gladly have it . A junk yard engine runs over $2500 with 130k or more .
Some of us like to work on engines, some are forced into it others are not going there . The more you learn the better off you are .
Your new engine may not come with oem phasors or metal tensioners, reman people take short cuts . . All the stuff you put on this long block is subject to age such as the intake manifold, intake runner control and all the other stuff you move . Not a perfect world for sure .
My engine was just like you describe, It has been 30k and she runs quiet and sweet . I'm not a wrench but I did it myself with all the help on here . When I opened her up one of the intake rollers was laying to the side off number 8 . Replaced them and all lash adjusters . So yes mine was scary . Good luck on your fix .

I went with a powertrain products new motor. Also getting new radiator,, new plugs, COPs, melling oil pump, new water pump and new serpentine belt with kit. the alternator, idler pulleys and belt tensioner were new 7 months ago. shes also getting a rough country 6 inch lift with new MOOG struts upfront and RC's shocks in the back.MISS GEORGIA is finally going to be the truck I always wanted. I will definitely load pics when she's finished.
