Default Weird shifter question

I was missing my cap on my shifter. So my fav wrecker delivers to me, and got a new cap sent. However it seems like it's missing a ring? But he says no... before I have to grind the cap what am I missing?

This is as far as it sits.

Maybe there are broken off pieces of the old cap in there still?

Ok I went and checked it, and it seems like there might be 2 different cap styles.

See on mine these tabs only fit on the outside of the shifter.

And they hit on this part..

Stupid question, but have you tried rotating it in different positions?

Yeah, take a dremel to the "fins" that are sticking inside of the hole, cut till it fits. Do it a little at a time, and it should fit very snug and not rattle.

Yup same all the way around.

Cut and glue I guess. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something before I go a grinding!

You don't need to glue. Take your time with the tabs, make it a snug fit, and the other clips should still clip in. No rattle, and it won't fall off.
