If it is a 4.6 look into UR EGR and make sure it isn't messing up. The "surge"

Default Thanks for the tips.......

I was having the surge and stall issues as well.....stop lights/signs, slowing to turn or park. Had to left foot brake or pop it in neutral and feather the pedal to keep her running. Pulled the throttle body and it was filthy! Throttle body cleaner and the mandatory red mechanic's rag and she runs like a charm....so far. Idle seems to be back where it belongs. Time will tell. Thanks to everyone for the tips! Saved me some time, money and aggravation!

Default Ford f150

Hey guys I have a ford f150 2008. when I put in gear and hold the brakes and accelerate to about 1000 rpm then rpm starts do go up and down by it self and when I unplug the camshaft actuator solenoid then it stops any ideas what could be the problem. And it also has the problem where it starts to shudder at 40 to 50 miles any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

The first problem sounds like a vct/phaser/oil pressure issue. When you do what you describe the vct system is engaging and disengaging as it crosses say 900 rpm and it's not smooth could be various reasons related to the vct system. When you unplug solenoid it disables the vct so you don't get the rough transition between off and on it just stays off.
For the second question it is almost assuredly misfires. The first step there is to replace the spark plugs with new motorcraft ones purchased from a reputable source so you don't get counterfeit junk plugs. While you are replacing the plugs take the time to clean the ignition coil contacts where the spring attaches to the tab and replace the rubber boots for good measure. You can get a set of 8 new boots for around $35

You need to get the Diagnostic Trrouble Codes (DTCs) read at Autozone or other, it's free and takes less than five minutes. Report back with results.
